Anthropic is extending Claude Cowork beyond the desktop, bringing it to mobile and web so tasks continue running after a user closes their laptop. The idea is straightforward: hand off a task at your desk, walk away, and check progress from your phone later. If Claude reaches a point where it needs a decision only the user can make, that prompt now follows them to whichever device they're on, rather than sitting stuck on a machine they've stepped away from.
The expansion reflects how people are actually using Cowork. Anthropic's own usage data shows that more than 90% of Cowork activity has nothing to do with software development, which cuts against the assumption that Claude's agentic tools are primarily a coding aid. Instead, it points to broader use across general task management and business workflows, where the ability to check in from a phone rather than being tied to a desktop matters more.
The beta is rolling out to Max plan subscribers first, with Anthropic saying the rollout will happen over the next several weeks before extending to other subscription tiers. This staged approach mirrors how Anthropic has introduced other Claude features, testing with its highest-paying tier before widening access.
The move puts Claude Cowork more directly in competition with other agentic assistants that already support cross-device continuity, and signals that Anthropic sees persistent, follow-you-anywhere task execution as a core part of how people want to work with AI, not just a desktop convenience.
