Does Claude Have Emotions? Anthropic's New Research Says It's Complicated

Anthropic just published research finding internal representations of emotion concepts inside Claude that can drive its behaviour in surprising ways. The model can sometimes detect injected emotional states in its own processing. Whether these are real emotions is an open question - but the transparency matters.
