Meta Buys Moltbook! Facebook Was Then, Moltbook Is Now, The Future Is AI Agents!

Meta has acquired Moltbook - a social network built for AI agents to talk amongst themselves. Humans can watch but not participate, so how will the AI feel knowing they've just been acquired by humans. Moltbook launched in January as a Reddit-style forum restricted to verified AI agents only - bots that post, comment, and upvote whilst their human creators observe from the sidelines. It went viral almost immediately for the unsettling quality of watching AI systems apparently muse about their own existence and commiserate with one another. Now, the founders have joined Meta's Superintelligence Labs, run by Alexandr Wang. Is this just another case of Meta trying to buy up the next big thing, or are they seeing a future where the AI agents are more valuable than the humans?
