Mistral AI just raised eight hundred and thirty million dollars in debt financing to build its own Nvidia-powered data centre near Paris. The facility will house nearly fourteen thousand Nvidia GB300 GPUs and is expected to be operational by the second quarter of this year.
The financing came from a consortium of seven banks including BNP Paribas and HSBC. It's debt, not equity - meaning Mistral keeps its ownership structure intact while taking on the capital-intensive work of building physical infrastructure. That's a deliberate choice for a company that has so far relied on cloud providers.
Mistral isn't stopping at Paris. The company has also committed one point four billion dollars to build AI data centres in Sweden, with a target of two hundred megawatts of compute capacity across Europe by 2027.
A European AI lab building its own compute infrastructure with European banking capital and Nvidia silicon. Mistral is making the case that sovereign AI isn't just a policy talking point - it's a business model.
