OpenAI has launched GPT-5.4 mini and GPT-5.4 nano - two new small models optimised for speed, coding, and agentic pipelines. GPT-5.4 mini is now available in ChatGPT, Codex, and the API. It's twice as fast as GPT-5 mini and scores 54.4 percent on Software Engineering benchmarks - up from GPT-5 mini's 45.7 percent. On computer use tasks it scores 72.1 percent, nearly matching the full GPT-5.4, at a fraction of the cost. GPT-5.4 nano is API-only, comes in at 20 cents per million tokens and still beats GPT-5 mini on coding benchmarks. These releases will be greatly welcomed by all of us that are burning through tokens at a frightening rate. Intelligence is cheap!
