The company behind Pokemon Go just launched a platform that turns your phone into a 3D scanner. Scaniverse can reconstruct spaces into digital twins. From catching Pokemon to mapping reality, that's quite the pivot.
Niantic Spatial, the company behind Pokemon Go has unveiled their new project Scaniverse. Scaniverse lets you capture a space with a smartphone or 360 camera and then generate a 3D model. Meshes, Gaussian splats and visual positioning maps. Multiple people can contribute scans to the same environment and everything syncs to the cloud as a single model. Scaniverse's reconstruction feature is designed to keep the model current so updates can be made while everyone still works from the same ground truth. The SDK already supports Swift, Unity and Android. This isn't just a scanning tool. It's infrastructure for physical AI.
