Today's AI news: OpenAI says its models made three discoveries: a proof of the local smoothing conjecture in every dimension, a disproof of the Exponential Time Hypothesis, and a rigorous existence proof for 4D quantum field theories including QCD. All are unconfirmed and under independent review. Anthropic shared early drug discovery results with six partners, including CAR-T designs 70% shorter with 10x more receptors. Google DeepMind unveiled Genie 4, a real-time world model with native audio. SpAItial released Echo-3, turning iPhone video into metric-scale 3D worlds. And Doroni teased the H1-X electric flying car. Anthropic shares early wins in drug discovery, Google DeepMind's Genie 4 world model learns to talk back, SpAItial turns your phone into a 3D scanner, and Doroni teases a flying car that lives in your garage. Here's today's AI news. OpenAI says its models have made three major scientific discoveries, one each in maths, computer science and physics. In maths, it claims a proof of the local smoothing conjecture in every dimension, which until now had only been proved in three. In computer science, it claims to have disproved the Exponential Time Hypothesis, a cornerstone assumption about how hard certain problems are to solve. And in physics, a rigorous existence proof for four-dimensional quantum field theories, including quantum chromodynamics. One harmonic analysis professor called the maths result historic. But nothing is confirmed yet. OpenAI has released the work as raw research data, and independent experts, led in computer science by MIT's Ryan Williams, are now checking the proofs. Greg Brockman's footnote: P still probably doesn't equal NP. Anthropic is moving deeper into medicine. Its scientists have spent months in research partnerships with six drug developers, including Bristol Myers Squibb and Generate Biomedicines, and it has started drug discovery programmes of its own, including for rare childhood forms of muscular dystrophy. The standout early result is at Generate, where scientists used Claude Code to redesign the genetic instructions inside CAR-T cell therapies, aiming to make them work against solid tumours. Anthropic says the new designs were 70 percent shorter and produced ten times more receptors in lab tests. These are early lab results, not clinical ones. Google DeepMind has unveiled Genie 4, its most realistic interactive world model yet. You can explore a generated environment in real time and steer it as you go, shaping events, camera angles and actions. The big new addition is native audio: every world generates its own sound, from ambient noise and music to characters who talk back to you in real time. Gemini's reasoning helps keep multi-step events coherent, and it simulates photorealistic scenes and real-world physics. It's in research preview with trusted testers now, and coming to Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and to developers through the Gemini API. SpAItial has released Echo-3, a world model that turns your phone into a 3D scanner. Record a short iPhone video of a space and it reconstructs a photorealistic, metric-scale 3D world, from a single room to a multi-floor building or an outdoor space. It exports Gaussian splats, point clouds and meshes. It treats reconstruction as generation, so it fills in the spots your camera missed, which means those parts are the AI's best guess. It's available now through an iOS app and an enterprise API. Doroni has teased its H1-X, an electric flying car designed to live in your garage and take off from your driveway, with a top speed of around 120 miles per hour. The pitch is simple: the roads don't always go where the views are best. It's still a long way from your driveway, though. The FAA has only approved a prototype for flight testing, certification flights are planned for 2027, and Doroni is targeting first deliveries in 2028, at an expected price of around 400,000 dollars.
